Henry Horner (November 30, 1878 – October 6, 1940) was an American lawyer, jurist, and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as Governor of Illinois from January 1933 until his death. He was the first Jewish governor. Board contracted for and negotiated all loans authorized by General Assembly for internal improvements and signed and executed all bonds or stock certificates issued for such loans. Henry Horner (1878-1940), Democratic Governor of Illinois (1933-1940), was born on Nov. 30, 1878 in Chicago, Ill. When his parents divorced shortly after his birth, his mother resumed using her maiden name and changed her son's last name to Horner, too.
